Marcus Rashford- In Detail.
Marcus Rashford has been in the papers and people's minds recently after he signed a contract at Manchester United for 4 years + an option to extend for a year.
I thought we should a look at Marcus with his stats and achievements for the past 4 years and look at the future; then we'll see if does justify his contract extension.
Contract Details- Marcus has signed a Manchester United contract extension recently. The young prodigy for Manchester will earn around 200K straight on and has performance based incentives for another 150K. This is a significant bumper from his previous contract which set terms for about 40K GBP. This has raised questions? Is it too much for a 21 year old?
To Answer That we have to take a look at performances and stats from his period at United.
I take a look at his performances in the big games, his ability on the wings and stats to prove if he does deserve it.
In the last 4 years- He has played Under Louis Van Gaal, Mourinho and OGS. Marcus Rashford fair to say thrives under pressure and is a clutch player. He has scored against Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool. Marcus provided the decisive breakthrough at 90+4 against PSG in the UCL R16 to send Utd through. Marcus Rashford also scored the winner against Anderlecht in UEL to send Utd through and a phenomenal freekick against Celta Vigo to give a valuable away goal in the Semi Final.
He has scored a penalty to give England the lead in Nations League Semifinal and a penalty put away in the famous penalty shoot out win against Colombia.
Versatility- Marcus Rashford plays anywhere along the front line but primarily likes to play at ST. He is not a target man and likes to run in behind. His quick feet and tactical intelligence are a defenders nightmare. His Pace and Work rate also are added pro's to his game. Under Mourinho and Van Gaal he operated on the left. He endured some goal scoring droughts but showed phenomenal maturity to get through them.
Stats- Marcus Rashford has scored over 45 Goals and has given 26 assists in all comps for Manchester United in 3.5 years. He has put on the Manchester United crest for over a 170 times which show the faith in him. He has a goal involvement for about every 2.3 Matches which is pretty good considering he is only 21 years old. These stats are better than Kane's and Cristiano Ronaldo's at 21. Marcus Rashford had a goal every 111 minutes prior the injury he picked up against Liverpool. Very exciting to see him play for Utd under OGS for a full season.
Future- Marcus is a young striker with tons of mesmerizing performances at 21 years old. He has done extremely well for Man Utd and has proven he has got what it takes to be a Utd player. His Versatility, His Attitude and Workrate with his potential make him deserve a contract extension. That being said, 200,000 GBP for a 21 year old is a bit too much. Anywhere around 130,140 would have been fine. But, There are performance based incentives. The Future looks exciting with him leading the line.
